Where it sits

How SailTac compares

The professional tools are built around a full-time navigator and reward one. The phone apps are built to be picked up in a minute. SailTac is built for the boats in between — and for the analysis that, on either of them, someone still has to sit down and do.

Our own summary of the category, written to be useful rather than flattering. Every cell says what that kind of tool is built to do — none of them claims another product lacks something, because that is not a thing we can know from the outside. Questions

Before you buy

Anything not covered here, just ask — scott@sailtacperformance.com. A real person who races reads it.

Is it per person or per boat?
Per boat. One subscription covers every phone, tablet and laptop aboard, for the whole crew. Per-seat pricing would fight the way the product is built — the point is that everyone can see the numbers.
How does the license actually work?
You get a license key by email. Enter it once, on any device, and it unlocks SailTac for every device on that boat. It's tied to the boat name you give at checkout, not to a person or a machine.
What happens when my year is up?
Your subscription renews and we email you a fresh key to paste in. If a renewal is late, the app keeps working for 14 days with a warning banner rather than locking you out — a license should never be the reason you can't race.
Does it work offshore with no signal?
Yes, and that's the point. Fetch the weather and cache the chart tiles for the course before you leave the dock, and everything — instruments, routing, logging, analysis — runs with no connectivity at all.
What do I need to run it?
A Windows or Mac computer aboard — Windows 10 and up, or macOS 11 and up · Apple silicon and Intel — and instrument data it can reach: NMEA 0183 over the network or a USB adapter, or NMEA 2000 through a gateway. The installer includes everything else; there's nothing to install first. Crew connect from their own phones and tablets over the boat's Wi-Fi.
Is there a Mac or iPad version?
There is a Mac build — signed and notarized by Apple, Apple silicon and Intel — and it runs the instruments and the analysis exactly as the Windows one does. There is no iPad or Android build of the boat computer itself, but the interface is a web app, so iPads, iPhones, Android tablets and other laptops all work as displays over the boat's Wi-Fi.
Can I try it before I pay?
Yes — 30 days, every feature, no card. Download the installer, request a trial key, and run the built-in demo simulator on your kitchen table before you ever plug it into the boat.
What if the season gets away from me?
If you subscribe in the spring and don't get to race it that season, email us and we'll sort out the next year. We'd rather have you racing with it than holding a grudge.

Try it first

30days, every feature, no card. If it doesn't earn its place on your boat, you've lost nothing.
